Drunken Kinnelon Man 'Lunged' at Officer, Cops Say

Overturned car reported near Sunrise Terrace.

A Kinnelon man was charged with disorderly conduct and DWI Thursday morning after police said he "became threatening and lunged at" a police officer before being placed under arrest. Matthew Luisi, 22, was additionally issued summonses for failure to exhibit insurance documents and failure to maintain a lane. He was transported to Morristown Medical Center following his arrest just after 2 a.m. for an evaluation. He was later released and is awaiting a court date. According to Kinnelon Police Detective Sgt. David Crouthamel, Luisi was found standing on the roadway near an overturned silver BMW in the middle of Boonton Avenue, near Sunrise Terrace. Luisi told police he was not injured, Crouthamel said, but Ptl. Mark Ehrenburg smelled …

Most Dangerous Main Road in Kinnelon [POLL]

Tell us what you think the most dangerous main thoroughfare in the borough is and why.

A road does not have to be slippery to seem dangerous to some drivers and even with warmer weather on the horizon, some of the main roads in the borough may not seem as safe as others. Recently, a report has designated Route 46 as the most dangerous road in Morris County. Now we want to know what you think is the most dangerous main road in Kinnelon. Participate in our poll below and let us know in the comments why you think that road is dangerous. Also share with us the smaller streets you tend to not feel as safe driving on and why.

Not having any stats to go by, I am going to say Kinnelon Road, especially the section west of Fayson Lakes Road toward Powerville Road in Boonton Township. I am basing this on the number of serious motor vehicle accidents and even fatal wrecks that I dispatched over the years on Kinnelon Road compared to the others. For those who don't know me I dispatched police, first aid, fire and electric …   more ›

Council Continues Exploring Bike Route Safety

Councilman suggests adding warning signs to bike route signs.

Whether or not more signs should be added or signs could be taken away from the bike route on Kinnelon's three major thoroughfares is still being explored by the Kinnelon Council in the wake of public concern over the safety for both bicyclists and motorists on the designated route. The "bike route" signs that line Boonton Avenue, Fayson Lakes Road and Kinnelon Road have become a hot issue in Kinnelon, particularly on Fayson Lakes Road after two bicyclists were injured on a sharp curve in the road after colliding with a car. The bicyclists were ultimately issued summons and not the driver of the vehicle, but residents have become concerned about whether the bike route in these locations of the borough is safe. Mayor Bob Collins said last …

I appreciate the efforts of the Kinnelon Council members who are trying to resolve this dangerous problem. For the time-being, let us drivers be mindful about slowing down and sharing the road (not only with bicyclists, but with other cars). While traveling on the inside of that bend, I have encountered many, many careless drivers who cross the double line into my lane, as I hug the rock wall as …   more ›

Firehouse Construction Slated for Completion in August

Councilman said work is expected to pick up.

Construction on the new Boonton Avenue firehouse in Kinnelon is expected to pick up and is on-target for an Aug. 1 completion date, according to Kinnelon Councilman Dan O'Dougherty. O'Dougherty gave a brief construction update during the Kinnelon Council's April 19 meeting and, according to The Suburban Trends, noted that construction was delayed for several weeks as more measurements needed to be taken for panels being delivered to the site. Read the full story from The Suburban Trends here. "That project, in the next few weeks, is really going to take a remarkable appearance on that site," O'Dougherty told council members and the public. The Kinnelon Volunteer Fire Co. had been asking the borough for several years to construct a new …

Does anyone in Kinnelon realize that Dan O'Dougherty is the biggest fraud that lives in our town? The man claims to be 100% disabled, and was granted 100% disability. He pays no taxes to the Borough of Kinnelon. What gives this man the right to vote on the residents of this towns taxes? It doesn't mean anything to him weather or not the taxes go up or down. When Dan isn't in town hall he can be …   more ›

Poll: Which Project Should Butler Have Submitted Grant Application For?

Council decides on Boonton Avenue water main replacement project.

At the Butler Council's meeting Tuesday, Borough Administrator James Lampmann told the council that the deadline for grant applications under the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program was approaching in the beginning of January and asked the council which project they would like to submit an application for. The council unanimously decided to apply for a grant for a water main replacement project on Boonton Avenue. Lampmann made three recommendations for projects. One of the criteria considered in applications is the percentage of low-or-moderate income families the project could affect. The three projects Lampmann suggested to the council were a water main replacement project on Boonton Avenue from Brook Street to near the …

Council to Decide on Firehouse Bid Specs Thursday

Borough engineer recommends not redesigning building plans for Boonton Avenue firehouse.

The Kinnelon Council is expected to vote on whether to reject bids that came in higher than the council had hoped for for the reconstruction of the Boonton Avenue firehouse at Thursday's council meeting. The current facility can barely fit the Kinnelon Volunteer Fire Co. engines in its bays. The project includes tearing down the existing structure and building a new one several feet away. The new firehouse will be 80 by 50 square feet and will be two stories high. The borough received 13 bids in August, the lowest coming in at $1,091,875. The borough has bonded $900,000 for the project, expecting bids to come in below that cost, and will be deciding whether to bond more to meet the bid of the low bidder, Liam Design/Build. Liam built the …
