What Did You Think of Bloomingdale's 4th of July Fireworks?

Borough brings back Independence Day celebration with a bang.

After a brief hiatus, Bloomingdale brought back the Fourth of July fireworks last Friday at the Walter T. Bergen School. Last year, the fireworks display was cancelled in Bloomingdale and no fireworks were shown in Kinnelon. At one point, the two boroughs considered having a joint fireworks celebration. In addition to the bright, burning show Friday, kids enjoyed carnival rides, games and food and families came together from Bloomingdale and beyond. Check out our photo gallery from this year's Bloomingdale fireworks here. For those of you who watched the fireworks display, we want to know what you thought.  Participate in our poll below and then leave your comments.

According to police, the Borough of Bloomingdale has an ordinance that bans open fires in the borough. Police responded at about 9:30 a.m. after the employees said they smelled something burning from a residence near the parking lot. The resident was asked to extinguish the fire. Police said the resident agreed not to burn again after being given a verbal warning.

It's not just a local borough ordinance that bans burning brush, or leaves, it is a NJ state law going back 40 years for environmental reasons not for fire prevention. Local fire officials and forest fire wardens can issue permits for recreational things like bonfires and camp fires in addition to agricultural reasons. It is one reason that NJ residents pay such high property taxes and/or fees …   more ›

Council Passes Bond Ordinance for Field Lighting Project

Borough to hold off on going out to bid until more information is gathered.

The Bloomingdale Council unanimously approved a bond ordinance to appropriate $455,000 for the field lighting project at the Walter T. Bergen School Tuesday. Yazdi and D'Amato will be sworn in during an inauguration ceremony on Jan. 1 at 1 p.m. The field lighting project has been debated and discussed by the mayor and council since March. The council majority felt the project was too costly and voted to have the project put on a referendum in the November …

It would be helpful if the drop-off hours could be extended for those who work - many are in work by 8 and don't get home before 4. Or maybe the box could be located in an area of Boro Hall that is accessible later than 4, like outside the library doors...   more ›
