Bow Tie Cinemas opted not to acquire Clearview properties on month-to-month leases, as the Kinnelon 3 is.
May 27 is the swan song for Butler's Kinnelon Cinema 3. Cablevision, owner of Clearview Cinemas, is selling 21 of its New Jersey properties to Connecticut-based Bow Tie Cinemas. The Kinnelon 3, formerly a one-screen movie house known alternately as the Kinnelon Arts Center and Meadtown Theater, and has been in the Clearview roster since the early 1970s, is among the handful of theaters not included in the deal. "Clearview Cinemas is honored to have served moviegoers at the Kinnelon Cinema 3 in Butler for many years," said company spokesperson Beth Simpson Crimmins. Bow Tie Cinemas, the company purchasing 41 Clearview Cinemas locations, won't be acquiring the Kinnelon 3 theater.
Hard on the heels of news that Cablevision, which owns movie chain Clearview Cinemas, is selling 41 of its theaters in the tri-state region, including 21 in New Jersey, to Connecticut-based Bow Tie Cinemas comes word that the Kinnelon 3 Cinema will shut its doors for good sometime in the near future. Bow Tie says the decision belongs to the Kinnelon 3's landlord, which decided to close the movie house when its lease expires. The theater, also known as the Kinnelon Arts Centre, is located at 1451 Route 23. Calls to the theater and to Clearview Cinemas management regarding the reason for and projected date of the closing were not returned by press time. The place has to be seen to be believed. It boasts a sleek decor and state of the art acoustics and equipment.
