Strengthening district's reputation a top priority for Geyer Beaudoin.
Beata Geyer Beaudoin, 39, was unanimously appointed as the new member of the Butler Board of Education Thursday night. Geyer Beaudoin, a seven-year resident of the borough, was the only candidate who interviewed for the open position after former Board Member Sean Walsh was deemed ineligible to serve by the state Department of Education for not completing a criminal background check by a mandated deadline and later resigned from the board. The board's newest member is a director of psychology training at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey and coordinates an internship program for students through the University of Behavioral Healthcare in Newark. Walsh said new job responsibilities leave him unable to serve.

If Walsh can get an appointment to fulfill the requirement before Jan. 27, he will be permitted to remain in his seat. Carl H. Carabelli, manager for the New Jersey Department of Education, sent school administrators a letter about the extension on Jan. 13. "…

State to allow Board of Ed members to complete process by Jan. 27
The State Department of Education has granted an extension for Board of Education members who have still not completed a background check that was mandated to be completed by the end of December. According to Acting Commissioner Chris Cerf, board members can complete the fingerprinting requirement by Jan. 27, and remain active members of their board. If the member does not complete the requirements by Jan. 27, the ineligibility letters that were sent out this week will become effective, Cerf said. Board Member Sean Walsh's being found ineligible to finish out his term on the Butler Board of Education by the New Jersey Department of Education (DOE) should not affect the April school board election and it is possible that he would be able to…
