Truck Crash Victim in Critical But Stable Condition

Driver charged with failure to wear a seatbelt and careless driving.

The driver of a box truck that crashed into a utility pole off of Route 23 South Wednesday night was listed in critical but stable condition at St. Joseph's Trauma Center Thursday, according to Butler Police Capt. Ciro Chimento. William Bateson, 30, of Butler, was flown to the hospital by a medevac helicopter Wednesday after emergency officials responded just after 5 p.m. He was unconscious when he was pulled from his vehicle. The helicopter took off from the Richard Butler School. Police, fire and Tri-Boro First Aid Squad volunteers responded to the scene of the crash to find the front of the truck smashed into the pole at 1395 Route 23 South, near the CKO Kickboxing Gym. Butler Electric Installing New Meters

Tri-boro residents' meters are in the process of being replaced as the department upgrades its infrastructure.

Butler Electric customers are having meters replaced as the department is in the process of upgrading infrastructure to provide better service. The new meters are being installed in three phases, the first beginning in Kinnelon through Oct. 31, the second from Nov. 1 through Dec. 30 in Bloomingdale and the final phase in Butler from Jan. 1 through Feb. 28. Butler Electric Superintendent Craig Struble said the meter deployment is being done to streamline meter-reading and enhance billing. "The major benefit to the electric department is that we will have the ability to get reads automatically without having to send someone out to read the meter," he said. Will the Butler website be updated to allow customers to see the more granular data that the smart meter collects? I know other areas with meters like this can log into a website and see their hourly usage, etc.   more ›
