Hamburg woman collided with car making left-hand turn from Morse Avenue.
A two-car crash on Route 23 at the intersection of Morse Avenue, in Butler, shut down several lanes of Route 23 Tuesday night around 11 p.m. Neither driver was injured but fuel from one of the cars leaked out on to the highway, prompting the Butler Volunteer Fire Department to respond in addition to police. According to Butler Police Capt. Ciro Chimento, the driver of a 2007 Pontiac, a 49-year-old Hamburg woman, was driving south on Route 23 when she collided with a 2010 Mini Cooper being driven by a 53-year-old Kinnelon woman. The Kinnelon woman was attempting to make a left-hand turn from Morse Avenue on to Route 23. Firefighters, police spent an hour putting out grease fire at Butler Stop & Shop.
Butler police and fire officials spent about an hour Monday battling a blaze that started in the chicken rotisserie at the Butler Stop & Shop. Fire Chief Jim Neill said the fire started around noon. "It was burning pretty good," he said. "The chicken grease and the chickens were engulfed in flames." Neill said no hose was used to extinguish the fire but six fire extinguishers were used by police officers and firefighters, disseminating a powder on to the grease. No damage, except to the chicken rotisserie, was reported and nobody was injured, Neill said. "Nobody was hurt, except for the chickens. They turned out to be little hockey pucks," he said. The Butler Board of Health later inspected the scene and deemed the store to be safe.
Earl Dean was indicted on official misconduct charges.

Butler's former fire inspector, indicted on charges of falsifying inspection reports and official misconduct, was admitted into the Morris County Pre-Trial Intervention (PTI) Program on Monday. Earl Dean, 64, has been suspended from the Butler Fire Department since his arrest in March 2011 and, according to the Daily Record, has agreed to forfeit his public position and never seek a public position again. Police said man was in critical condition after his truck veered off roadway and into utility pole.
A male driver was unconscious when he was pulled from a smashed truck and airlifted to Morristown Medical Center following a truck crash off of Route 23 South Wednesday evening. Police were on the scene of the parking lot of 1395 Route 23, where the truck's face appeared to have collided with a pole, shortly after 5 p.m. Sgt. Mike Moeller, of the Butler Police Department, said only the single truck was involved in the crash and no passengers were in the vehicle. Shattered glass from the windshield covered the ground and crime scene was wrapped around the truck, which had a Safeway Piano Movers logo on the side. Former Butler Fire Inspector Earl Dean was accepted into the Morris County Court's Pre-trial Intervention (PTI) program, according to NJ.com, and is now awaiting approval from the state Attorney General's Office. Dean, 64, was indicted on charges filed in March 2011 that he falsified fire inspection reports for several Butler businesses. He was officially indicted on charges of second-degree official misconduct, third-degree tampering with public records and fourth-degree falsifying or tampering with public records. Road was closed for three hours while train contractors repaired tracks.
Hamburg Turnpike was shut down for more than three hours near Butler Printing & Laminating Monday as contractors worked to repair a washout that brought three feet of water through the train tracks, according to Butler Fire Chief Jim Neill. Neill said the Butler Fire Department responded around 5:08 p.m. to close the road to traffic while the railroad contractors worked to repair gravel under the tracks that had been washed out. The railroad tracks were similarly damaged one year ago from water during the tropical storm that followed Hurricane Irene, although Neill said the water that came around the tracks last year was "much deeper." Three adults escaped residential fire Wednesday afternoon.
Note: This story was updated at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday. Three adults are safe after escaping a burning Bloomingdale home on Pearl Street Wednesday afternoon. Bloomingdale police said that it was reported by a 9-1-1 caller that the house fire began after lightning struck the home around 4:30 p.m. Bloomingdale Fire Chief Mike Hudson said the fire had flames and smoke coming from the attic. Fire officials from Kinnelon, Butler and Bloomingdale arrived and put out the fire within 25 minutes, Hudson said. The adults who were in the home at the time were able to escape and no pets were reported to be inside. No injuries were reported. The Butler community celebrated national "Night Out" Tuesday, filling the Butler Park on High Street for a night of fun, food and music. Local businesses gave away prizes and food while the Bloomingdale Cornet Band entertained attendees with popular music. Butler police officers and firefighters mingled with residents. "Night Out" is a national event that encourages community police departments to host a drug-free gathering to bring neighbors together to meet their local officers.

The Fire Prevention Bureau that covers Kinnelon, Butler and Bloomingdale is asking homeowners to be more aware of what can set off their fire alarms and take precautions to avoid unintentional false fire alarms. Tri-boro fire codes allow for two false alarms per homeowner per year, the bureau said, and penalize the homeowner with a fine on the third false alarm. The estimated cost for a fire department to respond to a fire is between $250 and $450 per hour per vehicle and several volunteers give up their time to respond. The Bloomingdale home that was on fire Tuesday night, bringing dozens of firefighters to the scene and forcing officials to shut down Main Street, has been deemed "uninhabitable" by Bloomingdale Construction Official Dan Hagberg, according to Bloomingdale police. Police released new details Wednesday on the fire that tore through a first floor apartment at 91 Main Street. Gregory C.
