Unconscious Woman Charged With DUI, Cops Say

Police responded to call of woman slumped over her steering wheel to find her allegedly intoxicated.

After responding to a call of an unconscious woman in a car at Dunkin Donuts in Butler Tuesday, police said they determined the woman slumped over her steering wheel was drunk. Theresa Blair, 50, of Bloomingdale, was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, reckless driving and issued a summons for failure to change her address, according to Butler police Capt. Ciro Chimento. Chimento said officers arrived at the parking lot of the Main Street coffee shop around 7:30 p.m. after a caller reported Blair to appear unconscious in a black Ford Mustang. Sgt. New Fitness Studio Hopes to Promote Butler Main Street

Fuze Wellness owner said she will offer Spanish-speaking Zumba classes.

One of Butler's newest Main Street businesses is hoping to bring patrons together in fun and fitness to feel better about themselves. Fuze Wellness, a group fitness studio, is owned by Maribel Invernon, a massage therapist for the past seven years and life coach. Invernon, a Butler resident, said she was inspired to open the studio at 190 Main Street because of the impact fitness and wellness has had on her own life. "I had a lot of spotty self-image issues and weight issues," Invernon said. Invernon said her issues stemmed from a divorce three years ago and the death of her uncle, who died from complications due to obesity, two years ago. She turned to fitness to improve her own life and also began taking courses to become certified as a …

Resident asks mayor what can be done to curb illegal turns.

Though officers said it only happens occasionally, the Butler Police Department and Butler Council are hoping to educate the public about the dangers of illegal left and right turns and illegal U-turns on Main Street. Resident Bob Norman asked how the borough is policing the issue at Tuesday's council meeting. Mayor Bob Alviene said summonses are issued for the offense, but that it is hard to patrol the issue without stationing an officer on Main Street for eight hours a day. He also said the number of summonses issued for the offense does not warrant keeping a police officer down there. "The truth is, we're dealing with people. Some people will obey the law, some people will never obey the law," he said. Norman asked if the borough has …

Like Nancy, I think the people pulling into the Polish deli to make a quick turn to go north on Rt 23 are very reckless. Also, the Enter/Exit arrows on the Boonton Ave side of the Polish deli lot are, in my opinion, backwards. As currently defined, anyone who wants to cross Rt 23 exits the lot only a few feet from the intersection, where southbounders turn right onto Boonton Ave. I've seen many …   more ›
