Guilty Verdict Returned in Butler Murder Trial

Amalia Mirasola could face 30 years-to-life in prison after being found guilty of shooting her husband six times to death.

A state Superior Court jury found Amalia Mirasola guilty of murdering her husband, Carl Mirasola, insider their Butler home in 2010. Mirasola, who was also found guilty of possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose when the jury delivered a verdit Thursday, could face 30 years-to-life in prison on the first charge plus up to an additional 10 years in prison on the weapons charge, according to a press release prepared by Acting Morris County Prosecutor Fredric M. The attorney representing Amalia Mirasola in her trial for the shooting death of her husband in their Butler home in 2010 said Mirasola shot Carl Mirasola in self defense, according to nj.com. Amalia Mirasola, 47, who suffers from multiple sclerosis, called Butler police on May 22, 2010 and said "I think I shot my husband." Accused Murder's Sister Could Be Called as Witness

Butler woman will stand trial for allegedly shooting husband to death in 2010.

As Amalia Mirasola, the woman accused of shooting her husband to death inside their Butler home in 2010, prepares to stand trial next month, her sister, Edna Gonzalez, may be called as a witness in the trial. According to the Daily Record, Morris County Assistant Prosecutor Matthew Troiano has said he may call Gonzalez to the stand because she knew details of the marriage between 47-year-old Mirasola and her husband, Carl Mirasola. A Butler woman accused of shooting her husband six times, killing him while he slept, in 2010 is scheduled for trial in December, according to NJ.com. Forty-seven-year-old Amalia Mirasola, who suffers from multiple sclerosis and is wheelchair-bound, allegedly told Butler police, "I think I shot my husband," when they arrived on the scene on May 22, 2010 and found Carl Mirasola, 43, dead. But that statement, and others, should not be allowed as evidence in court, according to defense attorney Kalman Geist, because they were made before Mirasola was read her rights, as reported by NJ.com.
