Family Continues Pizza King Legacy in Butler

Restaurant is run by a father-and-son team, bringing many different specialty pies to the tri-boro.

If you have been in the area long enough, you may remember Pizza King in the Meadtown Shopping Center, in Kinnelon. When friends of the Pagliarulo family closed the doors of Pizza King, the Pagliarulo family was opening a pizzeria and decided to takeover the Pizza King name, continuing the legacy of the popular tri-boro pizza joint. Now located at 1574 Route 23 North, Sal and Joe Pagliarulo work together to bring their customers specialty pies along with classic Italian meals. When I stopped in, Sal was actually away in Italy, where he goes every year to pick up new ideas for specialty pies. Joe, his son, was running the pizzeria, when I noticed a lot of walk in’s for Sicilian pies, which are only $10 any day of the week. I have heard …

Dessert Worth the Wait With Danny's Fried Oreos

Danny's Pizza offers carnival-style dessert along with delicious sandwiches and slices.

Having eaten at Danny's Pizza several times, I can honestly say I have never been disappointed. The night I went to Danny's to prepare this review was no exception—especially after dessert. My guest and I went to Danny's Pizza on a weeknight and several families sat in the dining section of the restaurant around us. We both decided not to order pizza this time and instead went with sandwiches. My guest had the California Cheese Steak ($7) and I went with the classic Turkey and Cheese Sub ($6). The bread was fresh and I enjoyed the red onions, which seemed a little unique to this type of sandwich to me but definitely added a great flavor to the meal. I personally am very particular with my cheese and prefer a nice deli cut yellow American …

Galaxy Diner Serves Comfort Food With Consistency

The Galaxy Diner is open every day, with the exception of Christmas.

The wind was picking up and dark clouds were rolling in as my guest and I were walking into the Galaxy Diner, where the manager opened the door and greeted us saying how crazy the weather was that day. He walked us in and sat us at our table and immediately made a great impression. The restaurant was clean and appeared to be a nice place for couples and families. My dinner guest and I decided on sharing the zucchini sticks ($5.99) which we generally love, but it is rare to find them in all restaurants and diners. They arrived golden brown and served alongside a marinara sauce that was very flavorful. For my meal, I went with the Happy Waitress ($7.29) which is a grilled cheese sandwich served open-style with bacon and tomato. The tomato …

Historic Smoke Rise Village Inn Offers Delicious Gourmet Food

The Smoke Rise Village Inn serves a nice selection of gourmet foods at affordable prices.

Although The Smoke Rise Village Inn is inside the gated community of Kinnelon, you do not have to be a resident to enjoy the wonderful dining experience you will have there. Since the facility hosts weddings, receptions and other major events in its beautiful historic building, people often overlook The Smoke Rise Village Inn as a place to dine. The Smoke Rise Village Inn has been operated since 1947 and the building is even older. It is part of farm buildings that date back to the 1890s by Francis S. Kinney. It wasn’t until J. Alden Talbot inherited the estate in 1945, with his goal to preserve the appearance of the estate, that the Smoke Rise community began, incorporating shortly after in 1946 as the Smoke Rise Company. Smoke Rise …

AJ’s Offers More Than Pizza

AJ's Pizza is known for their pies, but they also serve a full menu of chicken, veal, seafood and more.

Walking into AJ’s Pizza, I saw a busy counter with guys flipping pizzas and to my right, a seating area awaiting customers. If you're not ordering pizza, don't worry, as AJ's has a full menu of dishes from the grill, such as gyros, pasta and entrees that you would find in a fine Italian restaurant. In addition to dining in, they also have take-out, free delivery and a new online ordering system that owner AJ Jashari said has brought in a lot of new customers. Jashari has been in Butler for 13 years but has been doing business for 20 years, starting out in Oakland. After his rent tripled, he said he had had enough and found the location in Butler that has “been a gold mine, I love it here,” he said. The dining area is casual dress and from …

Lina's Restaurant Exceeds Expectations

Lina's Restaurant offers a large facility, yet cozy dining experience.

Lina's Restaurant, located on busy Main Street, Bloomingdale, offers fine Italian dining where the lights are dim and service is directed at pleasing you. Owners Sal and Lina Pagliarula appreciate their customers so much they actually offer Customer Appreciation Day every Wednesday and Friday, where they treat customers to 50 percent off the entire check (from 4 p.m. to 11 p.m., 18 percent gratuity added, cash only).  During the week, the tables were draped with Tiffany blue cloths, the lighting was dim and an electric fire place was burning, welcoming customers. Most customers were dressed casually- don't feel like you need to dress up to come to dinner at Lina's. After going through the menu, we listened to the list of specials for the …

Ting’s Restaurant a Chinese Favorite

Ting's Chinese Restaurant offers Chinese, Cantonese and Szechuan cuisine.

When I first moved to Bloomingdale, Ting’s Chinese Restaurant was one of the first Chinese places we tried-and it has been the last. What I love most about Ting’s Chinese Restaurant is that in addition to pick up and delivery, you can sit down in their large dining area, where the wonderful service is a special treat. The dining area isn’t anything fancy, but the food and friendly service is what brings families back time and time again. When asked, Yoyo, an employee at the restaurant, even said, “It’s the same reason you come back. The customers enjoy the food and service that we offer.” Ting's employees make sure you have a pleasurable experience every single time. The restaurant opened in 1997 and has been a staple in the community …

Brothers Make B&B Deli a Community Favorite

B&B Deli is hot spot for the community to grab a bite and some conversation.

I walked into B & B Deli, at 6 Boonton Avenue, in Butler, with high expectations, as the deli has been the talk of the town since they opened in August 2010. Brothers Bob and Bill Behring opened the deli just last year, but they are not new to the business, or the community for that matter. The Behring family owned and operated B & B Deli on Union Avenue in Bloomingdale in the late 1970’s and 1980’s. When the family closed the business, the brothers parted ways. Bob went to Florida to become a corporate chef and open a number of restaurants and Bill opened a full-service catering company to fill the void of the deli. So what have they learned in those years that they brought to the new and improved B & B Deli and Catering? “A whole lot," …

I'lm so glad you chose B&B to review. I've used Bill for years for catering and everything he does is with a full heart and food expertise. He's always been a great addition to the town of Bloomingdale and now he's just next door in Butler. It's great to have good neighbors in business. Many years of great food ahead for all of us.
