How to make a meaty meal to satisfy holiday guests.
Prime rib is a very expensive "company's coming" cut of meat, and typically it only goes on sale around the holidays. Prime Rib is on sale at Shop Rite for $4.99, for $5.99 at Pathmark and for $6.99 at Stop & Shop. I like to buy Sheffield & Sons “Angus” standing rib roast which has large, traditional prime rib bones and a good grade of meat (USDA Angus Choice Beef). It is typically three to four pounds. (With tall college guys in my family, we usually think a pound per person, including a bone with each slice.) Select a roast that is "marbled" with bits of fat "speckled" in the center of the roast (ask their meat manager to help you select if you have a question). This "marble" will give the roast the best flavor and ultimately the …

Stephen Pellettiere, with Ion Weather based at the Morristown Municipal Airport, said current projections appear to have the small storm begin producing at about 9 p.m. on Christmas Eve, tapering off at the latest 6 a.m. Tuesday morning. "A little storm is passing to our south," he said. "There's a tenth of an inch of moisture, which translates to about an inch of snow." Some areas, including southern Morris County, could see as much as two inches of the white …

The following was submitted as a Letter to the Editor. If you'd like to submit a Letter to the Editor, send it to ariana.cohn-sheehan@patch.com Dear Editor, I am a 75-year-old proud grandfather who, on Dec. 18, will have lived 40 years in Bloomingdale. When I opened my email from Tri-Boro Patch just a few minutes ago, my immediate attention was drawn to the article “Helicopter Santa to Fly Into Bloomingdale.” My first thought was will my 8-year-old grandson Alex going to be excited at his age in seeing Santa in a helicopter again; and second, will his father take him to this event since it is his father’s visitation weekend. I then read the nice article written and I reminisced about the fun that I had with Alex when we waited and saw …

Annual event scheduled for Dec. 7.
The Borough of Butler will light up the downtown park again this year, kicking off the holiday season and illuminating the area. The celebration will be held on Dec. 7 beginning at 7 p.m. The Butler Park lighting is an annual tradition that brings families from the tri-boro and beyond together for a night of music, fun and holiday cheer in front of the Butler police station. Santa Claus and his wife make an appearance and invite children to hop up on Santa's lap and make a Christmas request. Last year, Santa Claus arrived on one of four firetrucks completely decorated in holiday lights. Check out photos from last year's event here.
