Museum Admission Free This Weekend for Bank of America Customers

Liberty Science Center, Morris Museum, Garden State Discovery Museum and more to participate in free weekend event for cardholders.

Several New Jersey museums will open their doors to Bank of America and Merill Lynch cardholders this weekend as part of the bank's "Museums On Us" initiative. The intention of the event is "to provide a cultural benefit to Bank of America cardholders and increase access to the arts across the United States," according to a press release. "The program brings new audiences and increased attention to participating organizations, which range from some of the nation’s most celebrated museums to regional gems and include art, science and history museums, as well as other cultural institutions," the press release said. Newtown Shooting Inspires Butler Woman to Help

Substitute teacher launched effort to send survivors and their families to Disney World.

NORTHERN JERSEY -- Miles away from Newtown, CT, a New Jersey resident said she felt personally impacted by the elementary school shooting in which 20 children were killed last month. Sarah Cox, 22, a substitute teacher in Butler, said she spends a lot of time around children who are similar ages to those who died at Sandy Hook Elementary School.  "I enjoy working with the younger kids, I love children and I could not believe it," Cox said. "I'm sure everyone in America's heart is breaking for these families." While Cox has spent some time reflecting on the tragedy, she has also spent time planning for a way to bring some sort of relief to the survivors and their relatives. Why don't you go to a real grief meeting. They are all around. Every town has them. You will see that a trip to Disney is the last thing they need. Money is the last thing they need. Why not ask the government, and non profit organizations to help the children that are alive, that need food and re-enforcement to just go on living. They number in the thousands. Housing Partnership Director to Retire

Susan Zellman has led Morris County organization for 20 years.

Susan Zellman, founding executive director of the Housing Partnership for Morris County, has announced she will be retiring in March. Zellman, who has also been a Sussex County freeholder for the past 12 years, including serving as freeholder director for the past two, has led the organization for the past 20 years in continuing its mission to provide affordable housing opportunities to residents throughout the county. The Housing Partnership helps low-income families obtain home ownership and provides education programs and advice, as well as down payment assistance, foreclosure intervention and mortgage assistance, for people in need. Bloomingdale Commissioners Wanted

Recreation Commission, Bloomingdale Planning Board and more looking to get residents involved.

Have a passion for Bloomingdale but you're not quite sure what to do with it? Several of the borough's boards and commissions are looking for new members to begin serving in volunteer roles starting in January. "It is important the residents get involved and bring any expertise to help our borough," Bloomingdale Mayor Jonathan Dunleavy said. Dunleavy said that volunteering for the commissions is a way for residents to contribute to conversations on topics that relate to the quality of life in the borough. Sandy Donation Effort Gets Lift From Local High School

Drive to collect toys and clothing for children affected by Hurricane Sandy was started by Bloomingdale family.

In addition to the holiday gift and food drives they run every year, the Madison High School Peer Group Connection and Student Council this season also supported "Santa's Rooftop Response," an effort to collect toys and clothing for children affected by Hurricane Sandy in Ortley Beach that was started by relatives of a faculty member at the school. "Santa's Rooftop Response" was started by the five-year-old son of Christina Earle. The Madison drive was a success and enjoyed support from students, administrators and a Florham Park business, according to a news release about the program. NJ Transit Offering Express Service to Mountain Creek

Riders can receive discounts on admission with a valid bus receipt.

Skiers and snowboarders can save some money when they hit the slopes with NJ Transit this winter. Beginning Wednesday, Dec. 26 NJ Transit will provide direct transportation to Mountain Creek resort in Vernon. Buses are scheduled to pick up passengers at the Route 23 Transit Center at 8 a.m. and arrive at Mountain Creek at 9:12 a.m. The return trip will depart from Mountain Creek at 4:30 p.m. and return to the transit center at 5:40 p.m. Roundtrip tickets will cost $8.80 for adults and $4 for children 5 to 11 years old, senior citizens, and customers with disabilities. Express service on the route will operate daily from Dec. 26 through Jan. 1. Beginning Saturday, Jan. 5 express service will operate on weekends and holidays through Sunday, …

Empire State Building 'Run Up' an 'Honor' for Cop

Bloomingdale resident Paul Tulli will compete against some of the world's best athletes for the National Multiple Myeloma Foundation.

Depending on the person doing it, walking up more than five flights of stairs is a challenge. Bloomingdale resident Paul Tulli is about to try 86 and he is not planning to even walk-he will run. Tulli was selected as one of 200 people to participate in the 2013 Empire State Building Run Up on Feb. 6. During the race, participants will run from the lobby level up. "I will be competing against the best athletes on the planet, racing from the lobby to the 86th floor observatory deck," Tulli said. Like many races of its nature, the Empire State Building Run Up encourages participants to run for a cause. Tulli will be representing the National Multiple Myeloma Foundation.
