The following was submitted by Rich Dellaripa, communications chair for the Bloomingdale Butler Youth Club. If you have something you'd like to announce to the community, upload it here. Students Donate More Than 1K Turkeys to Those in Need

Turkeys 4U, an organization with Montville and Kinnelon students, made their annual donation on Saturday.

More than 1,200 turkeys were donated Saturday by Turkeys 4U to local food pantries for distribution to those in need this holiday season. Turkeys 4U is a corporation started in 2001 by a 14-year-old Kinnelon High School freshman, Blake Wheale, who wanted to raise money to provide turkeys for those who could not afford them for the Thanksgiving holiday. Last year, about 1,200 turkeys were also donated to the the Father English Center in Paterson by the group. Turkeys 4U is made up of a group of high school students from Kinnelon and Montville. The students raise money throughout the year to purchase the turkeys and donate them in November. This year's group is made up of 19 students, 15 of whom are from Kinnelon and four are from Montville…

Hockey Greats Face Off for Sandy Relief on Friday

New Jersey Colonials travel hockey team coaches, New Jersey Devils alum to play benefit game at Mennen Arena at 7 p.m.

Mennen Arena, in Morris Township, hosts ice skating Friday nights. At least, it did, before Sandy hit. Then, it was the county's designated storm shelter.  While it again will not be a place to lace up your skates and take to the ice this Friday, folks will get the opportunity to see others do just that—and help others in the process. A benefit for the victims of Hurricane Sandy, called "War to Restore New Jersey," is set for 7 p.m. Friday at the arena. The coaches of the New Jersey Colonials traveling youth ice hockey team will face off against the alumni team of the New Jersey Devils. "Call it the 'War to Restore NJ,' 'War to ReShore NJ,' or 'Ice Cool Duel,' but the New Jersey Colonials travel hockey club’s coaches will be taking on the …

Food Donations Needed For Thanksgiving & Hurricane Sandy

Local food pantries struggling to keep up with the demand this holiday season.

For food pantries across Northern New Jersey, Hurricane Sandy dealt a double blow: It increased the number of families in need of assistance and shortened the span between Halloween (which Gov. Chris Christie moved to Nov. 5) and Thankgsiving, which comes early this year. Prior to the storm, the Community Food Bank of New Jersey reported more than 960,000 residents of Northern New Jersey are food insecure, meaning at times they lack access to enough food to maintain an active, healthy life.  The Community Food Bank is hosting its annual Thanksgiving Food Drive this Saturday, Nov. 17 from 9am to 2pm at the following locations: Morris County Passaic County  Sommerset County

Butler Electric was wonderful thru this catastrophe, as always. I watched a crew of 3 trucks work on OLD COW PASTURE LANE on the 4th day. It was like watching a Ballet, about 5 or 6 mem, no shouting , each man knew what to do. Crane up, bucket truck up/down. In about 2 hours tree down, pole back up, neat performance. Please don't expand there is something good about being the right size. Thanks. …   more ›

Trunk-or-Treating Brings Kinnelon Kids Together in Costume

One Kinnelon neighborhood decided to have their own Halloween.

The Borough of Kinnelon's postponement of Halloween due to damage from Tropical Storm Sandy did not stop the kids of one borough neighborhood from getting in costume early on Sunday. Kids and parents in the neighborhood of Lincoln, McKinley and Harrison Avenues went trunk-or-treating, where kids dress up and visit the trunks of parked cars filled with candly. "The families had a wonderful time celebrating Halloween," Olga Stack, one of the neighborhood's residents said. Kinnelon will be having boroughwide trick-or-treating on Nov. 10.
