Bloomingdale police are investigating a report of stolen aluminum that was left outside a Main Street business the night of June 10 and appeared to have been stolen by the next day. The report was filed by the business owner, who was not named, on June 11. Police said the owner believed the person or persons who stole the aluminum may have fled the scene suddenly since some aluminum was found to be left on the ground. Bloomingdale police are investigating an apparent motor vehicle theft that was reported on Tuesday at about 7:30 a.m. Police said Ptl. Robert Grabowski arrived on the scene on Overlook Road in Morse Lakes where a resident’s guest reported that a vehicle had been parked overnight on the roadway and that the following day, they found loose change on the ground outside the vehicle’s door. Police said they believe an actor may have entered the unlocked door of the vehicle and taken an unknown amount of change, but that no other items were reported missing. Lake community property owners voice concerns to borough council.
Dozens of Bloomingdale residents are unhappy with their recent tax assessments that have caused their taxes to increase by thousands of dollars as the borough is in the process of a revaluation. The residents, mostly from the borough's lake communities (Lake Iosco, Morse Lakes, Glenwild Lake and Kampfe Lake), spoke out against their assessments at Tuesday's borough council meeting, many stating that their taxes are projected to increase questionable amounts. Resident Carla De Witt said after the company hired to do the revaluation, Appraisal Systems, Inc. (ASI), visited her home, she was told the land of her one acre lot which was previously assessed at $82,600 was now being assessed at $294,600. The total increase in her property taxes …
