Kinnelon church parishioners treated to a capella concert.
Parishioners and event attendees were treated to a special a capella concert by University of Maine's University Singers on March 15 at Our Lady of the Magnificat Church. Seen in the video attached, the singers performed popular songs like "Swing Life Away" and other hit tunes. The group is led by University Singers conductor Dennis Cox, who has directed the singers for 35 years. Typically, the singers make stops at schools for assemblies and music programs run by UMaine alumni.

Popular, classical hits to be performed by singing group.
The advanced concert choir out of University of Maine, University Singers, will be making a stop on their 35th annual spring tour in Kinnelon at Our Lady of the Magnificat Church on March 15. More than 70 singers will come to the church as the last stop on the tour at 7:30 p.m. "The University Singers is an advanced concert choir with members from all academic disciplines. The ensemble tours the Northeast each spring and schedules a European tour every four years. At home, the group regularly performs with the university’s Oratorio Society and the Bangor Symphony Orchestra," according to a press release about the group. New leadership could provide 'a whole new outlook on things,' another local priest said.
As the Vatican announced Monday Pope Benedict XVI will be resigning from his leadership position on Feb. 28, local religious leaders expressed their shock at the announcement, appreciation for the man's work and thoughts on the future. "It's a surprise. I think it took everybody off-guard," the Rev. Richard Husted of St. Mary's Church in Pompton Lakes said. St. Mary's Church, which is home to parishioners from the tri-boro as well, will not be significantly affected by the resignation. Parishioners simply need to know who to pray for. "It's hard to say that it would have much of an effect except we pray for [the pope] every time we gather for mass," Husted said.
