Despite county ending hunting season early at Pyramid Mountain for PSE&G power line project, local official said township will allow hunting through the end of the month.
While hunting at Pyramid Mountain has been cancelled by Morris County, one local official said Montville will not be putting any regulations on the hunting season to stop hunters from shooting at the park because of ongoing work on the PSE&G Susquehanna-Roseland power line project. The Morris County Park Commission sent a letter to hunters advising them that the hunt was being cancelled early this season as work continues on the power line, which runs through parts of Montville, Boonton, Kinnelon, Jefferson and other municipalities. The Pyramid Mountain Natural Historic Area is located in Montville and borders the Borough of Kinnelon. According to the letter sent to the hunters by Kelli Kovacevic, superintendent of natural resources …

County asks hunters to cease deer hunting at Pyramid Mountain as work on PSE&G Susquehanna-Roseland line is expected to pick up in next few weeks.
Registered hunters are being asked to put down their guns and bows at Pyramid Mountain even though deer-hunting season is not yet over as work is expected to pick up on the Public Service Energy and Gas (PSEG) Susquehanna-Roseland power line project. Kelli Kovacevic, superintendent of natural resources management for the Morris County Park Commission, reached out to Montville Township officials to say hunters who have purchased permits to shoot at Pyramid Mountain have already been notified of the cancellation of this season's hunt in the park. The early cancellation (the hunt typically lasts throughout January) is a result of the under-construction PSE&G power line. The 500-volt line project, which began with a pre-construction phase in …

They wonder if the Morris County Park Commission and utility company, in choosing Valhalla Glen, have settled on the best route.
PSE&G is planning to walk and use "mules," essentially all-terrain golf carts, on a popular Turkey Mountain hiking trail so the utility company can install the controversialSusquehanna-Roseland power line, the executive director of the Morris County Park Commission said at the commission's Monday meeting. The company needs access to the power line that runs over Turkey Mountain so it can install new lines that have twice the height and capacity. Representatives of the Lake Valhalla Club and Valhalla Civic Association who attended the Park Commission meeting, held at the Frelinghuysen Arboretum, said they worry about how the traffic will harm the area, and wondered why the Valhalla Glen trail was determined to be the best way to access the …

Mayor memorializes Lucy Meyer's contributions to Kinnelon.
Lucy Meyer wrote the book on Kinnelon. Literally. While she was not present at Thursday night's borough council meeting, Mayor Bob Collins read a proclamation that honored her for more than 38 years of volunteer work to the borough. "She just did an incredible job in representing our past and documenting for future generations," Collins said before reading the proclamation. Meyer was appointed as the director of the Kinnelon Environmental Commission and initiated a resource inventory that included information about historic homes in the borough, a ground water study and several maps. The inventory, which was published in 1973, was used as a study guide by Rutgers University and presented to the Library of Congress. In 1976, Meyer wrote the…

There is now a law suit brought by this small coalition of people to stop these lines. If your really upset by this please get involved.   more ›
