The North American Aerospace Defense Command has a website that now offers a Santa tracker mobile app to follow the jolly man's magical flight.
They sent him their wish lists, sat on his lap, and left cookies and milk for his arrival. Now the only thing left for children to do is track Santa's progress as he delivers gifts around the world on Christmas Eve. Thanks to the folks behind the North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) website, families worldwide can now follow Santa's Christmas journey in real time. The tradition started in 1955 after an advertisement for Sears Roebuck & Co. misprinted a telephone number for a special "Santa hotline." Instead of reaching Kris Kringle, the number put kids through to the Continental Air Defense Command (CONAD) Commander-in-Chief’s operations, according to a description on the NORAD Tracks Santa Facebook page, which has more than …

The following was submitted as a Letter to the Editor. If you'd like to submit a Letter to the Editor, send it to ariana.cohn-sheehan@patch.com Dear Editor, I am a 75-year-old proud grandfather who, on Dec. 18, will have lived 40 years in Bloomingdale. When I opened my email from Tri-Boro Patch just a few minutes ago, my immediate attention was drawn to the article “Helicopter Santa to Fly Into Bloomingdale.” My first thought was will my 8-year-old grandson Alex going to be excited at his age in seeing Santa in a helicopter again; and second, will his father take him to this event since it is his father’s visitation weekend. I then read the nice article written and I reminisced about the fun that I had with Alex when we waited and saw …

All three boroughs schedule holiday events.
Santa Claus will not be riding a sleigh into Bloomingdale but a helicopter instead as the man in red will land in the borough on Dec. 9. The holiday festivities will be held at the Walter T. Bergen School beginning at 2:30 p.m. Bloomingdale Recreation Director Gail Galbraith described the event. "Music, crafts, carnival games, characters, horse and buggy (weather permitting) and, of course, Santa in a helicopter!" she said. Butler will be hosting its own park lighting event at the Butler Park on Dec. 7 at 7 p.m. Attendees will have a chance to talk to Santa and Mrs. Claus and see the park illuminated. Kinnelon will also be hosting a holiday celebration this year and will invite residents to the Kinnelon Municipal Building for refreshments…

Annual event scheduled for Dec. 7.
The Borough of Butler will light up the downtown park again this year, kicking off the holiday season and illuminating the area. The celebration will be held on Dec. 7 beginning at 7 p.m. The Butler Park lighting is an annual tradition that brings families from the tri-boro and beyond together for a night of music, fun and holiday cheer in front of the Butler police station. Santa Claus and his wife make an appearance and invite children to hop up on Santa's lap and make a Christmas request. Last year, Santa Claus arrived on one of four firetrucks completely decorated in holiday lights. Check out photos from last year's event here.

We catch up with the man in red.
One would think, having so many places to visit around the world, the tri-boro would not stick out in Santa Claus' mind. But as we learned from him in an exclusive interview, Santa has a special place in his heart for Kinnelon, Butler and Bloomingdale kids and said the tri-boro is one of his favorite places to visit. Tri-Boro Patch caught up with jolly old Saint Nick this week to talk about how the reindeer have been preparing for Saturday night, what Mrs. Claus has been up to and why he is excited to visit our area. Q: Are you ready for Christmas? A: Santa's very ready. The elves have been working very hard to get the toys ready for children and to make sure all the lists are filled. Q: What are some toys kids have asked for? A: There's …
NORAD tries to predict when you might expect St. Nick coming to your home.
For 364 days out of the year, the North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) spends its time tracking airplanes, missiles, space ships—anything flying near the United States and Canada. But on Christmas Eve, a team of volunteers spends the night tracking a very special pilot: Santa Claus. "We are the only organization that has the technology, the qualifications and the people to do it," NORAD said on its website. "NORAD tracks Santa, but only Santa knows his route, which means we cannot predict where and when he will arrive at your house." Santa usually starts at the International Date Line in the Pacific Ocean and travels west, NORAD noticed, meaning he moves from the South Pacific to New Zealand, Australia, Asia, Africa and Europe …

Butler kids to have mail answered by jolly St. Nick.
Santa Claus can be pretty busy this time of year, but not too busy to answer the letters of Butler children. Kids had the opportunity to write their favorite man in red letters over the past several weeks and drop them off at the Butler Public Library. Santa Claus even answers their letters. "They get an individual letter from Santa Claus sent to their home address," said children's librarian Arlene Walk. Writing on behalf of Santa is Butler Recreation Department Secretary Judy Fields, who has been running the Santa letter program for the past 30 years. This year, Fields said the library received over 75 letters. "They were short. [The kids] only wanted one or two things. Many asked for a safe or happy family," Fields said. Fields said the…

Share your photos with Santa.
Hearing a lot of "Ho, ho, ho" lately? That's probably because Santa Claus has made several special appearances in the tri-boro the past several weeks, from visiting the Butler Applebee's Toys for Tots Drive to riding on a firetruck in Kinnelon, helping light up Butler Park and participating in the Holiday Stroll in Bloomingdale. We know you and your kids have had their photos taken with the Christmas celebrity, and we want to see them. Upload your Santa photos to the gallery above.
