Union: Teachers Graduation Attendance Up to Them
KEA president said board should respect teachers' 'personal choices' regarding whether to volunteer at high school graduation.
Kinnelon Education Association (KEA) President Tom Shannon responded Friday to statements made by Kinnelon Board of Education President Margaret Zybrick at Thursday night's meeting regarding KEA members and high school teachers not planning to attend the high school commencement ceremony on June 15. "Attending graduation is an activity for which teachers can volunteer," Shannon said. "Why a teacher chooses to not attend is his or her personal business. I hope the board president respects these personal choices in order to avoid any implication of impropriety on the part of any teacher." So, the teacher asked you to wait until the fall.. Not saying she lied to you, but she could have left out the part that the union told them not to write them until the fall. Doesn't mean she's a bad teacher, it means that the teachers are looking to the union to get them the best contracts.
