The Morris County prosecutor has announced he is assuming the prosecution of another high-profile case, even though his five-year term was up in June. Vanessa Brown, a Parsippany resident charged with manslaughter for allegedly killing an elected Board of Education official from East Hanover in a DWI crash in May, will be prosecuted by Morris County Prosecutor Robert Bianchi himself, according to a report by The Star-Ledger. Bianchi told a judge Monday he is assuming the prosecution of the case after the assistant prosecutor who had been handling the case left for a job with a private firm. Hundreds came to St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in East Hanover Friday morning for the funeral mass of Ralph Politi Jr., so many that the sanctuary could not hold them all. Many watched a simulcast of the service in adjacent rooms or downstairs. Others stood outside of the church, listening to the audio on huge speakers. Wherever one was, the public display of sadness was apparent as people shared hugs or wiped away tears at the sudden, inexplicable loss of a person who by all accounts worked hard, played hard and gave all he had for his family, his friends and his town. Parsippany resident told authorities East Hanover man pulled out in front of her vehicle.
A business security camera's footage contradicts the account a Parsippany woman accused of being drunk when she struck and killed an East Hanover man gave to authorities immediately after the incident, an assistant Morris County prosecutor contended in court Tuesday morning. According to Assistant Prosecutor Kelley Lavery, footage from the camera shows Vanessa E. Brown driving southbound on Ridgedale Avenue in the left-hand lane and suddenly veering into the right lane and into Ralph Politi Jr., who was not in a vehicle. Parsippany resident charged with first-degree aggravated manslaughter, bail increased.
A Parsippany woman who was allegedly drunk when she struck and killed an East Hanover man before crashing into parked cars over the weekend now faces a first-degree aggravated manslaughter charge, the Morris County Prosecutor's Office said Monday. Vanessa E. Brown, 32, had been charged on Sunday with second-degree vehicular homicide, driving while intoxicated, reckless driving, careless driving, failure to maintain her lane, driving with unsafe tires and driving an unregistered vehicle. I really honestly wonder what it will take for people to realize that if you drink, even 1 drink, you MUST NOT drive. My thought is that cars should be fitted with an breathalyzer that monitors the driver's breath and if it exceeds the legal amount, the vehicle doesn't start. Get rid of the ridiculous TPMS systems and add this instead. Maybe than there wouldn't be useless deaths and accidents … more ›
