Bloomingdale police are investigating a report of stolen aluminum that was left outside a Main Street business the night of June 10 and appeared to have been stolen by the next day. The report was filed by the business owner, who was not named, on June 11. Police said the owner believed the person or persons who stole the aluminum may have fled the scene suddenly since some aluminum was found to be left on the ground. A 23-year-old Kinnelon man was charged with disorderly conduct and hindering apprehension on May 31 after Bloomingdale police said he attempted to flee the scene where he was allegedly involved in a fight outside a Hamburg Turnpike business. Alex Leyden was caught by Ptl. David Terpstra around 9:54 p.m. Police said that in previously speaking with Leyden, he allegedly said his name was Alex Maida. When police learned his real name, they also discovered a warrant for his arrest from Newark. The Newark Police Department agreed to have Leyden released with a court date in their jurisdiction because they were unable to pick him up. A 25-year-old man from Rock Hill, N.Y., was arrested on May 27 and charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance (CDS) after Bloomingdale police said he reported an alleged hit-and-run that police said did not actually occur. Rick Schumacher was charged with possession of CDS in a motor vehicle and possession of drug paraphernalia. Police said Schumacher reported the alleged accident and they responded to the scene at 1:02 a.m. While speaking to Schumacher, police said they noticed signs of use of a CDS and found a small bag of suspected marijuana and several items used to ingest marijuana in his vehicle. Bloomingdale police helped a concerned mother locate her young adult daughter who she reported missing on Thursday at 1 a.m. Ptl. Kevin Peirsel took the report of the Chestnut Street mother who said her daughter had been gone for several hours and she did not know where she could be. Ptl. Kevin Peirsel and Sgt. Mark Johnson worked with Ptl. Brian Gordon of the Butler Police Department and located the young adult at a residence where she was found safe and unharmed. Police said vehicle apparently slid on wet roadway.
The driver of a vehicle that overturned on Glenwild Avenue Wednesday was taken to Morristown Hospital complaining of head pain, Bloomingdale police said. Police responded at 11:12 p.m. where they said the driver was already outside the vehicle and complaining of pain. The driver was transported to the hospital by Tri-Boro First Aid Squad and police said the preliminary investigation showed that the vehicle had slid on the wet roadway and turned 180 degrees, going backwards into a ditch and rolling over on the passenger side. Two individuals were arrested separately on Friday by the Butler Police Department Special Warrant Task Force. Cameron Walek, 19, of Butler, was arrested on a $500 warrant from the Bloomingdale Municipal Court. Police said he was unable to post bail and was turned over to the Bloomingdale Police Department. Gerald D. Matthews Jr., 23, of Butler, was also arrested Friday for allegedly failing to attend scheduled court appearances in Bloomingdale and Butler Municipal Courts. Bail was set at $900 ($400 for Bloomingdale and $500 for Butler). Matthews Jr. was unable to post bail and was sent to the Morris County Correctional Facility. Butler police Capt. Bloomingdale police are investigating a possible burglary attempt on Clark Street where a resident reported suspicious activity in their home. Police responded to the home at 6:04 p.m. on Thursday where a resident of the home reported a suspicious incident and said that the cable wires to their television in the living room were disconnected. Three individuals were separately arrested on warrants in the Borough of Butler last week. Joseph A. Moskwa, 30, of Hewitt, was arrested on Thursday at 3:20 p.m. Police said they conducted a random license plate inquiry on the 2001 silver Toyota pickup truck Moskwa was driving when they found him to have a warrant out for $265 from the East Newark Municipal Court. Moskwa was arrested but was able to post bail, police said, and was released with a ticket to appear in court at a later date. Also on Thursday, at about 4:21 p.m., Joseph Arch, 29, of Netcong, was driving when he was stopped at the intersection of Route 23 and Morse Avenue for a traffic infraction.
