Undermanned Bulldogs Fall in Season's 1st Match

Butler was unable to fill seven weight classes.

The Butler High School wrestling team fell 55-16 against Lakeland in its first match of the season on Monday. The undermanned team was unable to fill seven weight classes, which resulted in automatic losses. The Bulldogs had already suffered two forfeits before their first eligible wrestler, 119-pounder Tyler Descafano, was able to compete. Descafano defeated Tom Zinhobl, 10-0. Butler was unable to carry the momentum of the victory into the next match, as Lakeland's Zafar Nuralis successfully pinned Nick Colivito at the 1:17 mark of the first round. Despite Low Numbers, Wrestling Teams Come Up Big

Five wrestlers from Kinnelon and Butler place in Mt. Olive Tournament.

It was a successful day for wrestlers in the Kinnelon-Butler Patch area on Saturday, as five wrestlers from Kinnelon and Butler High School medaled in the Mount Olive Wrestling Tournament at Mount Olive High School. Some may see five wrestlers, from a combined two schools, placing in a tournament as a less than successful day. But when considering that the two schools headed into the tournament with a combined eight wrestlers participating, the results' impressiveness speaks for itself. Of the five total medalists, each school was represented by a champion as Butlers' Tyler Descafano (125) and Kinnelon's Luke Maroldi (140) each earned their way to the winner's circle.
