Missing Man Found, Resident's Death, School Closing Top Local News in 2012

The stories that made headlines in Kinnelon, Butler and Bloomingdale this year.

Bloomingdale's two new council members took their oath of office, as did new Butler Councilman Sean Mcnear. Bloomingdale hired a new borough attorney after the mayor broke a tied vote. Sugar, a Pit Bull that was reported stolen from the Bloomingdale animal shelter, was located and then later adopted by an FBI agent. A Butler Board of Education member resigned from his seat, citing new job responsibilities that he said prevented him from continuing on the board. The Bloomingdale Board of Education decided to discontinue a structured recess program after several parents came forward with complaints. After seven years, the family of missing Butler man Timothy Carney finally got some answers on the whereabouts of their son. Carney was found …

Year in Tri-Boro Business: A Look Back at 2012

Mexican eatery, candy shop open up in past year.

Here's a look at what businesses opened in Kinnelon, Butler or Bloomingdale this year. Click on the business names to read profiles featured on each. The new health foods shop took the place of the former The Art of Healthy Living on Route 23. Green Life Market offers similar products to that of the former store, including homemade organic meals and smoothies. Owner Kamel Yassin said he was inspired to open the store after reserching remedies for his own ailment. Ameer Yassin, Kamel's son, is a store manager and has an education in food science. Fuze Wellness, opened by Butler resident Maribel Invernon on Main Street in June, is a group fitness studio. The fitness studio features classes for women only, with a focus on dance, such as Zumba…

A look back at what made headlines and piqued readers' interest most this year.

Timothy Carney was found by law enforcement officials after seven years of being declared missing. While Carney was found safe and believed to be living in Chicago, his parents are unsure why he did not reach out to them for so long. Traffic was stopped for hours after police and fire officials arrived on the scene where a woman was seriously injured in a crash at the Morse Avenue intersection. The woman was transported to the hospital after a medevac helicopter landed at the Richard Butler School to pick her up. We take a lot of photos of the tri-boro and the people who live here.
