Powerball Jackpot Soars to $600M for Saturday Drawing

If you draw the Powerball winning numbers in Saturday’s lottery, you could score $600 million, the largest Powerball jackpot ever.

Powerball results were watched closely Wednesday when the jackpot was $363 million. After no one picked all six winning numbers, the new Powerball prize for the Saturday, May 18, drawing is now $600 million, which makes it the highest Powerball jackpot ever — and the second-highest U.S. lottery jackpot. The one-time cash payout is estimated at $376.9 million. Tickets are $2 and the game is played in New Jersey and 42 other states, including New York, Florida, Texas and California. Tickets will be sold up to an hour before the 11 p.m. drawing. The largest Powerball Jackpot cash payout to date was a $384 million win on Nov. 28, 2012, in Arizona and Missouri. I have no problem with "Captains of Industry" being exclusive about the cultural criteria by which they judge others. Meritocracy is a good ideal. I don't like seeing it undermined. My issue is that a lottery winner clearly isn't a "Captain of Industry." Winning Powerball Ticket Sold in Passaic County

Winning ticket sold at Eagle Liquors in Passaic, lottery officials said Monday.

Carole Hedinger, executive director of the New Jersey lottery, revealed this morning at a press conference that the winning ticket in Saturday night’s lottery was sold at Eagle Liquors in Passaic, NJ.com reported. The jackpot, the fourth highest in Powerball history, is $338 million. A lump sum payment would be $221 million. The winning numbers were: 17, 29, 31, 52, and 53. The Powerball number was 31.

Powerball Player Wins $10K in Butler

Winning ticket sold at 7-Eleven on Route 23.

One lucky Powerball winner purchased a ticket from the 7-Eleven on Route 23 in Butler, according to the New Jersey Lottery. In a press release about the third-prize winners, who walked away with $10,000 each, the lottery organization said one of the 29 winning third place tickets was sold at the Butler store. Another winning ticket was purchased at AL Supermarket LLC in Wayne. The Powerball drawing, held Wednesday, had a record $550 million at stake. In addition to the third-prize winners, $2,745,161 in prizes was given to 450,773 New jersey residents who played. The prizes ranged from $4 to $400. Powerball Has Record $550 Million at Stake

Big-money dreams on the line in record drawing Wednesday night.

A record sum of money could be for the taking Wednesday night, as the Powerball jackpot has reached $550 million. Those in New Jersey hoping to cash in have until 9:59 p.m. to snag a ticket, or two, or–well, you get the idea. The drawing will take place at 10:59 p.m.  With no winner since Oct. 6 and an increase in the cost of tickets to $2, the value of the pot has skyrocketed.  The jackpot, won by matching all five white balls in any order and the red Powerball, can be paid out as either an annuitized prize paid out over 29 years or a lump sum payment, according to the game's website.
