The Borough of Butler has implemented a parking ban for the early morning hours on all borough roads. Butler superintendent said neighboring districts seem interested.
The Butler, Bloomingdale and Riverdale school districts will likely be moving forward with a shared services agreement for the costs of a new reading and writing curriculum for grades K-8. Butler Public Schools Superintendent Mario Cardinale said Monday Riverdale has already expressed interest and that he was planning to have a conversation with Bloomingdale Public Schools Interim Superintendent Dr. Terrance Brennan this week. At that point, the districts will move forward with the purchase of the program. "The real reason to celebrate is we're going to then be on the same page with them with the same K-8 (curriculum)," Cardinale said. Brennan previously told Patch that he feels the program can be beneficial to all of the districts' …

Kinnelon, Butler officials respond to assist with brush fire Thursday.
A brush fire that blew a smoky haze over Route 23 Thursday evening was allegedly caused by three teenagers who were playing around with fire behind a Stonleigh Terrace residence, a Riverdale police officer on the scene said. "It's just a fire gone bad by some kids," he said. The officer said no one was injured and that trees did not appear to be on fire but that the smoke was largely caused by leaves catching on fire. The fire broke out around 5 p.m., the officer said. Officials from the Kinnelon Volunteer Fire Co., Butler Fire Department and Oakland Fire Department were on the scene, as well as Riverdale police and other officials.
