Recycling Your Wrapping Paper

End your holiday by helping the planet.

After it's been ripped, crumpled, stepped on and tossed around like a basketball, there's still one more thing you can do with your used wrapping paper: recycle it. Hundreds of garbage bags are filled with wrapping paper Christmas morning after presents have been opened. But what many do not know is that the paper and other wrapping materials can actually be recycled. "The amount of trash that haulers collect increases dramatically during the holidays," said Penny Jones, a recycling specialist with the Morris County Municipal Utilities Authority (MUA).  "Much of that is gift wrap and packaging that can be reused or recycled rather than be put into in the trash." Pets Seeking Homes for the Holidays

Bloomingdale Animal Shelter tries to adopt out pets before Christmas.

Every year, on Dec. 25, families around the world unwrap red and green wrapping paper to find pajamas, socks, toys and more. But there are some Christmas gifts that do not wear out as quickly as your standard present. Some gifts provide memories that the receiver will treasure for the rest of their life. One gift that keeps on giving is a new family pet, and with so many homeless cats and dogs in the area, pet adoption is just one way to give back this holiday season.
