I just questioned the "only five" because I think that even one would be too much.

On the article $581M Drop for 2013 Hopatcong Property Values

As long as they (the borough) can look out their office window and see beauty, they are satisfied. The money for the beautification and for the very expensively new playground for the kids at Modick Park were from grants. This did not come out of tax payers money.
What upsets me, and many residents, is that if you drive past the center of town and off any side street, no beautification was ever considered. The park near our house (Jefferson Park) is a danger to children, and our park is very much used! We have a softball field and basketball courts that are degrading to nothing. All is completely ignored. Heck, I would have been pleased to just get some of the hand-me-down playground parts from Modick Park, and maybe some new basket ball hoops. The borough cannot see beyond their noses. Thats the bottom line.

@TheWatcher. From what I remember, the Mad House never happened because there was some toxic contamination of some sort in that area that was never cleaned up. Nothing can go there, till that issue has be rectified. And being that location is so close to the water, one wonders how this toxic contamination is affecting the ground and water.

When the mass exodus happens with the residents then the borough and Hudson Farm can go target practicing.

I was thinking the same thing! I have lived here all my life and have not seen one farm. Unless... the plots in the community garden are now considered mini farms? ;-)

On the article High School Support Staff Contracts Still on Hold

ReplyCome on! The support staff is the blood of the school. Without them you would not have a running school! Maranzano is leaving our district because HE isn't getting the salary increase HE would like! How nice it is to retire with a big fat pension!
The Admin Dept. gets paid WAY too much! Maranzano makes nearly $200K a year! And he wants to talk about "the board wanted to keep the raises under the two percent cap, and that "these aren't the economic times to make leaps in base pay and overall pay.""
Give us a break! Admin Dept. needs to take a pay CUT so that their support staff can be paid more appropriately! A new hired cafeteria workers get paid a little over $7 an hour. You should be ashamed to offer such a ridiculous amount of pay. Then to complain on a 2.4% increase? That isn't even enough! The support staff should just walk out! Let Maranzano feed the kids, he gets paid plenty to do it!
How is ANYONE expected to support their families and pay their mortgages on a $7/hr job.
What the heck is 2.4% on $7 an hour??? It's $.17 an hour!
This school system is penny wise and pound foolish.
And they wonder why the voters don't vote YES for the school budget... because WE know where the money is going! The Admin needs to stop padding their own greedy pockets!

If you have ever been up there you will see there are already 2 fields up there. And a giant parking lot. No need to clear anymore trees. It just needs some minor renovations and it will be perfect for the Warriors.

ReplyThe funding is from the Chris Anderson Memorial Field Foundation (mentioned in the article above). The Warriors have been looking for a field to call their own for quite sometime. And the Chris Anderson Fund is for this purpose. The town is not paying for it.
Yes, there are LOTS of fields in this town. But I must say, that section of land that is behind the Civic Center - (AKA - Senior Center) was just wasting away. It is a perfect place for the Warriors to go. When my kids were in soccer I hated trekking up that hill, the road leading to the fields are in horrible condition, and the parking lot is in horrible condition too. So, any improvements should be welcome! Why let all this field area go to waste?
It is a much better decision than choosing a wooded, natural, untouched piece of land and make a whole new football field.

Seriously??? I have worked VERY hard with my children. While the kids go to school everyday and are just fed assignments... with very little ACTUAL teaching coming from the teachers. I don't have a teaching degree. I don't get a salary from the school system. But I do the best I can to be of assistance to my children. These "teachers" are educated in teaching, this IS their career, this IS what provides their income. YET, they are paid, very well, to produce failing kids!
I don't want to hear anymore blame it on the parents BS, I'm sorry. If the teachers did their job there would be little to no failures.
I wish each class could be evaluated on a case by case basis. I know what goes on in these classrooms, and so do most parents. The teachers don't teach anymore. They simply give instructions to read text pages and the kids are tested based on trust that the kids are able to be self taught (from home).
And you so you say that Hopatcong parents are less involved in the child's schooling then the Sparta parents?? I would say most parents are dedicated to their children's education. No matter where they live.
