Time for a fund raiser - help these wonderful people out who have been a part of our lives since I was a kid -what can we collectively do - there must be something ! Maybe they can have an ice cream cart outside - on a street location to help defray their costs & money loss ... Ideas ?

Our town of Long Valley aka Washington Township of Morris received a fax of a circuit map they had to tape together from JCP&L & had to lay it on the hood of Duke Energy Utility trucks to compare our townships map to figure out where the circuits were & how to get to them. It's like the stone ages ! Without the effort of our town councilmen & the lineman from Duke Energy..we would still be waiting for power. I bet this happened all over our state & probably the reason why power restoration took so long !! We love the efforts of the amazing lineman who worked so hard & we understand this was the storm of the century but things can be made better for everyone ! JCP&L just declared that $236 million for their earnings last quarter. Then why are we living I the stone age ?If you are like me & want to see reform in JCP&L and attend our public meeting we are scheduling at JCP&L Headquarters in Morristown for 9am Dec. 7 & want to get the latest info. About what you can do to have your voice heard about this ...go to the Face Book group page that is 631 members strong from around our great state go to :https:/www.facebook.com/groups/214956725303852/

Thanks Thomas for the idea & I will share with you the FaceBook group that anyone can join called "JCP&L needs to answer " which started out with a few members & now has 631 people from around NJ sharing info about what is needed to be done about JCP&L. We are hoping to have a public meeting with them on December 7th in Morristown at their headquarters. See the group site on FaceBook for emerging details. I have called the Lt.Govenor & Govenor Christie's office, next up BPU. We demand upgrades & reform ! Also, we can improve our way of sharing info. In our township as Mayor Short has talked about ..there will be a committee made up of concerned citizens who will brainstorm how we can spread vital info. for all of our Washington Township residents in the best manner. Thank you Tom also for keeping things positive. Instead of name-calling & mud slinging all of us can contribute energy into making life in our township the best it can be instead of wasting time bringing everyone down. That actually makes things worse, & we need all to rise above that ! Thank you !

It's amazing to me JCP&L faxed circuit maps that our Township office had to tape together that was hard to read so that the people from Duke Energy & others had something to go by & then use our Township maps to figure out where things were in relation to the circuit map. It was like piecing together a puzzle. Now, imagine towns doing that statewide & you see why it took everyone so long to have their power restored. Deplorable ! In this age of technology, they are operating in the stone age. With the $236 million they made last quarter (* 4 quarters =$944 Million) they can't upgrade anything ? Unreal. Time to kick them to the curb. I am glad Mayor Short & other elected officials from around the state are holding JCP&L accountable for these grievous errors & applaud the efforts of our Township & the Lineman who worked under tough conditions to restore our power. Maybe we should think like Alaskan Townships do ...Power company lineman are assigned areas to patrol never leaving their post, assigned to driving down every road in the area assigned to look for potential problems, keeping on top of everything. When issues arise, these people know their area inside & out, restoring quickly what needs to be fixed. When I was a kid, living here ..I can remember JCP&L within 6 to 12 hours in harsh weather conditions restoring our power, even though we were a rural area even in the 70's & 80's. What a difference it's been !

My family & I appreciate the work Mayor Ken Short has done. Everywhere you look, you see evidence of the tireless effort our local officials have made to insure our safety, & pushed for JCP & L to give us accurate info. that we ourselves could not get. While going foward, after we have all been restored to normalcy ..we will address how much we were lacking from our troubled energy company & how we should hold the management accountable for how the course of events unfolded. We all agree this event has destroyed our cherished beaches & our home towns in ways we can't fathom yet. Now is not the time to point fingers at our leadership, but rather a time to pull together & rebuild our beloved home of New Jersey. When it is all over, we will look for reform & will push our leaders to make the changes neccessary to insure that JCP&L will change the way they manage situations & keep us well informed, transparent to what their worklist timeline really is ..just to name a few. After a really long year of negative politics, and a long 14 days ..can we put aside all the name bashing & focus on what is truly important ..getting back to rebuilding the towns we love & live in.

Long Time LV Resident ..I applaud you for your eloquent words & will use them when I call the Govenor's Cell phone today. You are absolutely correct ..we must hold them responsible & accountable for what is going on. Their totals for total power outages in our town & I am sure the rest of the state should not fluctuate ..their accuracy makes us all feel they have no idea what is happening ! So everyone call your mayor's offices, senators, representatives, our govenor, the board of public utilities, & especially the better business bureau. They work & represent us !

I really believe the numbers calculated by JCP&L are fictitious, & outright lies especially when I see so little light coming from homes as I drive from one end of the township to the other. Trees hanging over our heads, roads closed for 9 days & sadly people taking the matters in their own hands which has a bad outcome for so many in our county & state at our area hospitals

I agree with all of you ..yes. We are very lucky that we didn't have extreme loss like the shore . My heart breaks for them. I must say though, when no one does anything for this long ..people take matters into their own hands. Public safety should be # 1 We need to stand up to this, share info with each other because apparently that is all we have, & call our representatives, our mayor, our Govenor ..this is an outrage. For all we pay this company, we should have honest answers. When our Board of Ed & Police cancel school for the next 2 days due to 80% power outage in our town compared to the 58% reported by JCP&L . Did any of you see the newest timeline for power in our town ? Today 11/6 = 1,570 restored. Tomorrow 11/7= 420, Thurs.11/8=688, Friday 11/9= 0, Sat.11/10=1,299. Friday zero ??!! This is beyond unbelievable and this is only in our town, this doesn't reflect everything happening around our beautiful state. So much more is going on !! Check out the Facebook page "JCP&L needs to answer" group page. Obviously, as I ride around from one side of the township to the other to be with my Parents who are taking care of my children while I am working ..I see no one. My lovely neighbor on Mission road who had a huge tree fall on power lines & block the road (See the picture on the Facebook group page) had 3 different groups tell him on 3 different days "we will take care of this for you" and never returned, called or showed up over 9 days.
