"V" is absolutely right . While I applaud anyone who takes a stand for what they believe in, Mr. Connors is clearly acting out of his own self interests. What's disturbing is that his indignation may be mistaken for being on the ride side of the issue. Being elected to the Township Committee is a major commitment and requires people who are dedicated, experienced and have served the township in other areas. What we don't need is someone who has thrown their hat into the ring without regard for any other issues facing our township.

Truth and Reason: Couldn't have said it better myself. It's ASTOUNDING to me that so many Americans continue to turn a blind eye to Radical Islam in the name of political correctness, especially in the wake of the Boston bombings. How much more evidence do you need to understand that the Muslim Brotherhood exists in this country and that their sole purpose is to infiltrate our communities? Paranoid? I don't think so. Racist? Absolutely not. It's unfortunate for those moderate Muslims whose faith has been bastardized, but they need to unambiguously and fervently fight against the radicalism that exists within the Islamic community. Anything less is tacit support of the radical agenda. The Islamic Society of Basking Ridge falls under the umbrella of the Islamic Society of North America. The ISNA was created by and supports the Musilm Brotherhood. Barbara Brooks and Alpharox, educate yourself before making such naive and foolish comments:

If memory serves, the scholarship was a whopping $1,500 and their very young children were involved in questioning the recipients. Nothing like starting that narcissism at a young age and certainly not noteworthy. Granted, they didn't have to do anything but please refrain from any praise on that front. As far as Tannenbaum's part in the Jets' abysmal season, he should apologize to and profusely thank Tim Tebow for his unending heart and grace throughout a no-win situation. We should all take a page from Tim's book.

It was a wonderful event, as always, and the snow made it perfect. What I fail to understand, however, is why The Patch refuses to acknowledge that they were Christmas carols sung under a Christmas tree? They weren't 'holiday' carols. This is a long-standing tradition to celebrate the birth of Christ. Please stop insulting the multitudes of Christians in our community.

Einaphets - where in LV do you live? My parents are on Old Farmers Rd. & my sister is on W. Springtown - both are still without power. Any updates would be greatly appreciated. I'm texting them from MA. Thanks.

LC - Unfortunately, it would appear that your earlier comment regarding whether or not the proposed mosque is compatible with the Master Plan is irrelevant. Our rather useless attorney, Stuart Koenig (who is paid to advise both the PB and the TC) said last night "that the board must approve the application if it is determined to be in compliance with local zoning ordinances. That would be the case even if the proposed use might not be consistent with the municipal Master Plan, which calls for the preservation of the historic village." Unbelievable, but true. It would be interesting to know whether or not Ali Chaudry was on the TC (as the acting Mayor, perhaps?) when the current ordinance was amended to allow 'permitted,' as opposed to, 'conditional' use for a religious institution. I wouldn't be at all surprised. Clearly, he has no concern for whether or not a place of worship in that particular location will have a negative impact on the surrounding neighbors' lives and/or home values, not to mention, the detrimental effect it will have on the town, over all. I can guarantee that their 'master plan' consists of buying the surrounding properties, after those residents tire of the traffic, noise, etc. (and realize their best offer will come from the ISBR) and expanding the building to create the most beautiful mosque in the country. Their own attorney, Bisogno, confirmed that last night: "The size of the congregation is not relevant. We want people to come to us."

Thoughts in BR - I agree wholeheartedly and believe that the ultimate goal is to purchase surrounding properties in order to expand the mosque to accommodate a much large congregation.

Rebecka - Their original plan did call for a 20 foot minaret (if memory serves - it may have been 30 feet). I'm not sure if it's been changed as the PB did question the height several months ago. Mr. Chaudry did say it would be turned toward Mecca, so the assumption is that it would be used as a call to worship.

C Tucker - Since their current plans call for the demolition of the house, they are no longer required to obtain a variance. Hopefully, if enough people attend the next PB meeting on Sept. 4th and express their concerns, the existing land use ordinance will be changed. I find it hard to believe that other, more appropriate sites don't exist in Bernards Township or nearby. I don't believe that Mr. Chaudry is at all concerned with the 'greater good.'

"Just move?" Ok. After 18 years of living in and contributing to this community, I'll simply pick-up my family and go. Where would you suggest? As long as there are people like you who are either too lazy or afraid to get involved, no other area is going to be better. I think I'll stay put and set an example for my kids by speaking-up and stating in no uncertain terms that this is wrong. The Millington Baptist Church wasn't allowed to build on, what, 20 acres of property on Minebrook Road due to residents' protests, so why should this mosque be allowed? Because everyone wants to remain politically correct? Why don't you attend the next meeting and ask Chaudry why a full-time Imam is necessary for one day of 'Sunday School?' Ask him whether or not this group intends to abide by Sharia Law. I'm sure the British could shed a little light on how that happened by stating "fair use is fair use."
