ReplyWhy not just announce that gas attendants have discretion to waive the odd/even scheme when they have no lines of cars. In practice, this looks like what is happening anyway.

On the article Mayor: Warren Has Been 'Extremely Active' After Sandy

ReplyWell said Alyson. I think the power companies should be the focus of our collective frustrations, predominantly due to the almost total lack of communication and activity on our roads. I would like to see what, if anything, can be done at the township OEM level for next time (e.g. requiring generators on critical service providers, and coordinating the clearance of the roadways in the first 24 hours by getting all power shut off to allow OEM to clear it), but the rest I think has to be done at state level with the utilities.

I've appreciated the daily updates from the township, including today the Mayor's personal voicemail number. My frustration is with the power utilities right now, and I want to see a coordinated effort to review their response and improve it for next time.
E.g. when there's a big outage like this, can we please have the whole township shut down at the substations for a limited period (e.g. 6-12 hours), enough to clear the roadways and get the wires out of the way. At least the emergency services, gas tankers, food deliveries and other critical services can then have good access to the township within the first day.

Seconded here. I would like the Mayor to ask for a detailed report on the damage and the recovery works, including a timeline and what equipment was dispatched when.

It would be great to see JCP&L tally up the actual work they needed to do in Warren at the end of this storm, so we could get a feel for how tough a job it was. I think most of us here have been irritated by the lack of communication MORE than the lack of power.

We saw Obama, didn't we? A 30 min flight in Air Force One to AC, a photo-op in various places down the Shore, a couple of sound bites for the press and back to the campaign again. Quite how 15% of the "on the day deciders" stated they voted Obama for his response to Sandy is beyond me. It's all Status Quo Ante again now, and Sandy was something that happened last month, or last election.
C'mon Obama ... I dare you to prove me wrong.
